Magic bars

Please welcome my pal and master baker Irvin Lin of Consume the Love who shares his favorite Magic Bars!

These bars pass a couple of different names, like 7-Layer Bars or Hello Dollies, but I’ve always known them as Magic Bars.

They’re a pure M >

The real magic of those wealthy, sweet Magic Bars is when easy they’re to create. There’s no mixing, no creaming butter with sugar, no adding the eggs individually.

Rather, Magic Bars are virtually put together from the kitchen of stock ingredients, that are then sprinkled and layered one on the top from the next. (Usually you will find seven different ingredients, which is a minumum of one from the alternate names!)

Bake within the oven until toasty brown and also the bars are carried out.

The main one essential component within the whole recipe is sweetened condensed milk. This sticky, gooey, honey-thick condensed milk is exactly what binds all of the ingredients together. Additionally, it caramelizes within the oven, giving a sweet depth to every bite much like dulce de leche.

Also, make certain you browse the labels and purchase sweetened condensed milk, not evaporated milk—the cans look much the same.

7-Layer Magic Bars Recipe

These bars are extremely wealthy and sweet, you are able to cut them into 24 small bars but still feel satisfied.

I love to give a sprinkle of flaky Maldon salt on the top to include some crunch which help cut the sweet richness. The salt is completely non-traditional, though, so omit if you would like that nostalgic, ultra-sweet Magic Bar experience.

1 Preheat oven to 350F. Spray a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with oil then line it with parchment paper.

2 Result in the graham cracker crust: Put the graham cracker crumbs and also the melted butter inside a bowl. Toss having a fork before the crumbs are moist and hold together when squeezed together with your hands.

Dump the crumbs in the center of the pan after which press them into a level layer together with your fingers or the rear of a set-bottomed cup.

3 Pour the sweetened condensed milk within the graham cracker crust. Spread to edges from the pan having a spatula.

4 Layer on all of those other toppings: Within this order, sprinkle the choc chips, butterscotch chips, pecans, after which sweetened coconut over the top condensed milk.

Lightly press the components lower together with your palm so that they keep to the condensed milk.

5 Bake within the oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Bake before the edges from the bars turn golden-brown and begin to drag away slightly in the sides from the pan. Remove in the oven and sprinkle using the ocean salt (if using).

6 Awesome completely before lifting the bars from the pan while using parchment paper. Reduce 24 pieces and store within an airtight container with wax paper or parchment paper between layers. The taste from the bars is better still the next day baking. Bars stored at 70 degrees is going to be fairly soft and therefore are best eaten within three to five days. For firm and soft bars, store within the fridge for approximately per week.
